Cross-stitching is a very beautiful and rewarding needlecraft. There is no end of the possible projects that you can create with cross-stitching and counted cross-stitch. The proper tools and materials are the basis of success as with any craft. Many beginners choose to buy a kit that has pre-cut Aida fabric with a pre-printed design, the proper colors of floss and some kits even include a small hoop. If a hoop is not included, it is recommended that you purchase one. A hoop helps you hold your cross-stitch fabric flat so your stitches stay at an even tension. You will need a small pair of sharp scissors to cut the floss to the desired length for easy handling, and the proper sized needle for your cross-stitch project. It is recommended that you use a size 24-tapestry needle for projects on 11 count Aida fabric or a size 26-tapestry needle on 14 count Aida fabric. When you decide to advance to a cross-stitch pattern, you will need to purchase the pattern and either 11 or 14 count Aida fabric, the recommended floss, a larger size scissors for cutting the fabric. Depending upon the size of project, you may want to purchase a larger hoop. If you are a beginner, it is recommended that you start with a kit, so you can see if you are going to like the craft of cross-stitching. It will give you an idea of what you will need if you decide you like cross-stitching enough to move on to a bigger project. All you will need to purchase will be the kit, needles and a small pair of scissors. courtsey of reshmi-on-art.blogspot.com |
