SUPPORT FOR MILITARY WIDOWS

If you know the meaning of TDY and PCS, you're married to a military man. When you're coping with a long deployment, it's very clear that this relationship is stressful in ways only another military wife can understand. Children, Parents and Friends are effective for live. They always have in the back side of their mind what could happen and then when it does, they need all the support they can get. Most military spouse can relate to what new widows of military person have been through and wonder who will be next.  It is sad but this is the life they have choose and they know that they have to deal with it.  Military people support each other and they are many survivor support organizations out there.

In times of tragedy and personal need there are several organizations available to prove aid and support.  The following are some I found for difficult times.

Taps, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, is an organization that is dedicated to supporting anyone and everyone who has ever been affected by a service member's death that occurred on active duty. TAP provides, at no cost to the survivor, a national peer support network, grief counseling referral service, crisis intervention and casworker assistance.

SMW, The Society of Military Widows, was founded in 1968 to serve the interests of women whose husbands died while on active military duty, of a service connected illness, or during disability or regular retirement from the armed forces.  SMW is a nonprofit organization.

Veterans' Widows International Network, Inc. organization formed to help with support of Veterans and retiree widows across the country.

American Red Cross assist family members of deceased Sailors in applying for federal and state benefits.  They provide information on other resources, counseling relative to problems arising from the death and planning to meet financial needs.

As a single person we can only pray that the wars will end and that our Military people will be safe.
